A person who spiked candy with tranquilliser and distributed them to minors at a summer camp in the region has confessed to sexual offences against two young males both nine and ten years old.
The defendant was arrested after eight youngsters and a grown-up fell ill at the facility in July.
The elderly man, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, admitted guilt to a series of 17 offences when he was present at the courthouse on the end of the week.
However, he refused to admit one particular crime he was accused of, which was concerning a nine-year-old child.
Ruben was remanded in custody prior to a further hearing on November 28th.
'Sweet game'
Mary Prior KC, presenting evidence, detailed Ruben's offending to the legal proceedings.
She stated his targets were children from difficult backgrounds who were staying at a summer camp which he ran.
Ruben engaged in a "candy game" with the youngsters, the prosecutor said, in which he would access the children's bedrooms when they were settling down and ask them to eat sweets "as quickly as they can".
She stated to the judge Ruben had conducted this practice with the children "over an extended period", and youngsters had earlier experienced illness the next day.
She said the defendant had been capable of justifying this for many years as the children being "overexcited from fun", until his stepson had suspicions in recently.
Mrs Prior KC continued: "Recently" his stepchild had worries about the situation, with valid cause.
"They chose" to examine in the individual's items."
Mrs Prior KC stated items including lubricant, ointment and syringes were found, and his family member contacted the police about his worries.
She said Ruben went on to play the "treat game" with six youngsters that time - July 26th - and they were all ill the next day.
"Law enforcement" had not arrived by that time," she stated further.
The oversight body, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, previously told that it was examining law enforcement's management of the events.
The legal representative explained the children were struggling to walk due to their sickness, so the family member called the authorities a second time.
She stated the man then engaged in the "sweet game" in a area of five children.
